Castillo De San Fernando
A good place to enjoy with the family
From the top of the castle you can get stunning views of the city. You're going to love it.
It is a castle built by Pablo Ordobas in 1813 during the War of Independence against France.
Its name derives from Fernando VII, King of Spain between March and May 1808.
This castle was made with the purpose of functioning as a prison.
We start our day in this magnificent castle, a place that, according to tourists, is a good place to walk quietly, enjoy the streets of the city and have a family picnic.
For the little ones it is excellent, since in its surroundings there are parks with swings, slides and others.

Mercado Central de Alicante
The main shopping center in Alicante

It is a building built by J. Vidal Ramos between 1911 and 1912.

The great institution that represents the city
It is recommended that you bear in mind that parking areas are sometimes scarce.

Later we continue with this baroque style building built in the 17th century by the architect Lorenzo Chápuli.
Here there are important rooms such as the Blue Room, the Plenary Room and a small chapel.
It also houses magnificent works of art by Cabrera, Padilla and Castelló, among other artists.
It is the center where the functions to govern the city are carried out, being chaired by the mayor of Alicante.
There are areas attached to the Town Hall that serve for the enjoyment of tourists. Among these is "The Discovered City", a building where you can see archaeological remains of Alicante and "La Cota Cero", a place where the altitude of the sea of several cities in the country is measured.

Castillo de Santa Barbara
A stop full of history

This 9th century castle is in the Renaissance style and is located on Mount Benacantil.
Its name derives from the day of Santa Bárbara, since on that date the castle was taken by Alfonso de Castilla from the Arabs.
It suffered bombings from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century, it was from the year 1963 when it was opened to the general public.
Is divided into three parts. In the first place is the Turret, there is the old Torre del Homenaje. Later, the intermediate enclosure where several rooms are located, such as the Patio de Armas and the Felipe II Room. Finally in the lower enclosure is the Revellín de Bon Repós.
During the Spanish Civil War this place served as a prison.
It is also called "The Face of the Moor", since if you look at it from afar, its structure resembles the face of an Arab warrior.
From this castle you can enjoy the best views of Alicante. Take advantage of them!
There are different options to go up to the castle such as by car, walking or by elevator. It is important to remember that access by elevator is paid.

Basilica Santa Maria Alicante
The oldest religious center in the city

It is known as the oldest church in Alicante, being built in the 13th century in a Gothic style.
It was built on the remains of an Islamic mosque, the largest in the city of its time.
It was rebuilt in the 15th century, since it suffered a fire that caused several damages to its structure.
Inside are works such as the Baptism, Immaculate and Communion chapels, as well as the Main Altar and the Chapter House.
Then we pass through what is considered by the inhabitants of the city one of the most important religious institutions, being the center of the patron saint dates of Alicante.

Carbonell
One of the most emblematic buildings in the city
If you want to take a picture of the building, from the square in front is where it will be best seen.
We continue our visit at Casa Carbonell, a modernist Valencian style building that has 880 square meters.
It was built between 1922 and 1925, designed by the architect Vidal Ramos at the request of Don Enrique Carbonell.
Inside they house spaces such as premises, offices and even homes.
Many years ago there was an accident where an Algiers seaplane collided with one of the terraces of the dome of the structure, causing the death of the crew and damage to the structure.
Legend has it that Enrique Carbonell decided to take revenge for the bad treatment he had one day at the Palas hotel, building this structure right in front, stealing the attention of tourists today.

Playa del Postiguet
One of the most emblematic beaches of this incredible city

Discover this quiet walk
If you pass through this place during the summer, we recommend that you go to the many open-air concerts that take place during that time.
We now turn to the Explanada de España, a famous promenade built in the 20th century, located from the Puerta del Mar to the Canalejas Park.
It is mainly characterized by its composition of more than 6 million white, red and black tiles in the shape of sea waves.
It has four rows of palm trees that adorn the promenade, being one of its main attractions.
Before the Civil War, this place was called “Paseo de Los Mártires”.
